HUGH GREER, Wichita, KS

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Hugh Greer spent his early years there.  He attended the University of Kansas and after graduation pursued a career in Industrial Design and Architectural Delineation before establishing himself as an outstanding fine-art painter.

He has won numerous wards for his work, including the Grand Prize at Arts for the Parks 2003, and he won Region III at Arts for the Parks in 2002.  Hugh has been profiled in several national art publications and his demonstrations and workshops are an inspiration to aspiring artists.  Hugh is the author of two books and has three new teaching videos.

Hugh also has a black Labrador named Ajax who loves to play fielder when Hugh takes batting practice.  "She's the best at finding baseballs that I hit in the tall grass -- it takes a real pal to wade into grass that's waist tall and Ajax considers it a treat to search, find, and retrieve!"

CHARLES HARPT, Tyron, NC

Charles Harpt doesn't come from an arts background, and when he grew up, there was no talk of Art in the streets of Philly during the depression.  Back then there were no support groups or organizations to lift poor people from the gutter.  You were on your own & found a way to make a couple of bucks or you went without.

His interest in Art began during training with horses in the U.S. Cavalry.  He was sent to Fort Riley, KS where he took his basic training with B Squadron, the last unit to train with horses in the U.S. Army.  He began sketching to remember.

After he left the service he enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philly on the GI Bill.  He won the Emlin Scholarship to study art in Europe.  This really opened his mind, he settled down to see if he had any talent to paint the things he enjoyed.  When he left the academy, he worked on a newspaper in Philly, then in art and advertising until his retirement.  He started painting horses and in 1994 entered a show in Tyron.  Since then he has continued painting, mostly in the Equestrian Arts.  It was from his association with horses that he came to admire the hounds & now many other breeds in the canine world.

He stated that like most artists he had a brag sheet of wards, fortunately he is still adding to it.  He has done numerous covers of Horse magazines and plans to add more work with canines.  Charles has won Best of Show twice at the Art Show at the Dog Show!
